Dhamma Teacher · Healer
Born in Vietnam, shaped by two worlds — a doctor by training, a teacher by calling. For over 20 years, Dat On has walked the path of energy cultivation, mindfulness, and Dhamma, guiding patients and students toward clarity and wholeness.
Dat On was born in Vietnam and came to the United States at the age of 13. Discovering his family's deep heritage in herbal medicine planted a seed that would shape the rest of his life. He went on to earn his Doctorate of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (DAOM) from Five Branches University — one of the most respected Eastern Medicine institutions in the country.
While completing his doctoral studies, Dat became deeply drawn to Qigong, meditation, and energy healing — dimensions of medicine that go beyond the physical body. Over the following years, he developed his own unique approach: Spontaneous Qigong, in which the practitioner surrenders to the natural flow of Qi, and Mudra Healing, a more advanced practice where sacred hand gestures arise spontaneously as instruments of healing.
After years of clinical practice as an acupuncturist, he stepped away from the clinic to focus fully on energy cultivation and mental development — offering classes and guidance to students rather than patients.
Parallel to his energy healing work, Dat was introduced to Vipassana meditation by a close friend — now the venerable Sayalay Manapika — and began a rigorous practice of Buddhist meditation that has continued for over 20 years. The Dhamma became not just a personal practice but a living teaching he shares with all who come to him.
Though non-religious in orientation, Dat is deeply in touch with the spiritual dimension of life. He encourages students and seekers to live the Dhamma in ordinary life — not as doctrine, but as clear principles for wholesome living and a direct understanding of the nature of oneself.

"I am non-religious — yet always in touch with the spiritual. People come to me with questions that have no easy answers, and we explore them together."
Dat lives in Stockton, California with his wife Dr. Thao Nguyen and their two sons, Minh and Nam. Most people address him simply as Dat. Those who study with him more deeply often call him Thầy — teacher in Vietnamese.
He no longer works in a clinic. His focus today is fully on energy cultivation, mental development, and the Dhamma — offered through classes, personal guidance, writings, and teachings both online and in person.
